I got a really good selling tip today. Pick your market. Pick your customer. And then stick at it. If it takes 6 hours, 6 weeks, 6 months, 6 years, aim to win that client. That's one way of doing it! And of course Donald Trump lectured us tonight via The Apprentice, that you really have to love the product you're selling. I admire that blinkered approach, I just don't have it. I can see both sides to most things, so there are not many things I have a passion for, or I get bored and want to move on.
I've been meeting with a few people recently, and each time, their passion and belief (even if misplaced) convinces me. I'm a real sucker for being convinced by the last person I saw!!
I'll remind you again, I think there are 8 types of salespeople which appeal to 8 types of customer;
Rogues (People love buying from lovable Rogues, even though they pretend they don't!!)
Proposal Writers (Some are good at churning out good proposals which customers love)
Deal Makers (This is common to the greatest salespeople; they love making a big complex large deal)
Nice Guys (Yes, some just nice you into it)
Bullshitters (Yes believe it or not, some customers like a good bullshitter)
Talkers (There are some who can talk and charm, and we buy from them just to hear more!)
Repeatable Process (Some salespeople have found a process that works and they just keep repeating it)
Activity Rate (And finally, some aren't' that good, but they make up for it by a high activity rate)
