Last Day at Work
Just finished my last day at work in the Corporate. I don't know how much I'm going to say now I've left.
Most things were good, most people were good and well meaning, but I can't help dwelling on the minority negative bits. I'll just post the headings now, as a thought provoker for myself for next week.
- Political Manoeuvring
- Being seen to do the right thing.
- Judging people too readily
- Lack of Trust
- Treating people as disposable objects
- I'm right, You're wrong.
- Miscommunication, but the more senior person is alway right.
- Back Stabbing
- The Goodies winning in the end over the baddies, but it's takes time, and sometimes it never happens.
- Getting away with it.
Ahh, what's the point in going into it in any more detail, it's all contained so well in Dilbert.
The last straw for me is the degree of PC lock down and obsession with I.T security. There's a wonderful world of creativity and technological development out there, much of it safe and for free! I know corporates have to protect themselves, especially from their own users!, but sometimes they can go too far. Looking at my home PC I use Microsoft Office and MindManager, which I also had at work, but what about all the rest....
- SharpReader RSS Feed
- ieSpell spellchecker for Explorer
- Mozilla Firefox browser
- Google toolbar
- Skype PC to PC voice and chat
- Trillian client for MSN, Yahoo, AOL chat
- MSN Chat
- Yahoo Chat
- AOL Chat
- Eyeball Chat for video chat
- IrfanView for photo viewing and editing
There's such an exciting space of RSS and Weblogs out there, which can help to change corporates, but I don't think it will happen. It's perceived as too risky. Only new players into the market can change things, and that will take a lot of time.
Oh well. Next! I've just bought an Acer 300 Tablet PC and I'm going to load MindJet's MindManager for Tablets. My gut feel tells me I've made a great decision, my credit card isn't so sure!!
my last day is in a couple of days. i'm just gonna tell 'em F all y'all I'm outta here.
