Ricky Gervais to cost me money
This is the biggest thing to happen on the Internet!
Ricky Gervais will be charging for Season 2 of his podcast.
It was radical to issue Season 1 for free via The Guardian.
And now this will really test the future of broadcasting on the Internet, and if/what people are prepared to pay.
And if we are prepared to piss around with DRM content which will no doubt be restricted to a device.
I say good luck to them especially as they released the first Season for free, and the content was the funniest thing I've heard in years.
I'll pay for the second series and give it a go, if nothing else, as a reward for their endeavours on the first series. I think the pricing is a bit too high at $6.95 and I'm sure they'll be amazed at the abuse they're going suffer from some people who will pay for nothing.
I'm telling you, this is a watershed, which will tell the rest of the internet and content providers with what they can charge for, and what people will be willing to pay for, or it's back to more advertising on free content.
My advice is that they should have kept the second series free and used it a loss leader for all the other projects and merchandise they could have generated, but I can understand that the first series was costing them money.
Why pay when you can get it for nothing from your internet friends?

Their podcast was a basic rehashing of all their xfm shows done a couple of years earlier.

I won't be paying to hear those jokes for a third time!
