Wow, what an inspiration.
Just watched Andrew Denton, interview one of the luckiest (or unluckiest) people.
Tony Purkiss has had 4 life threatening events, and survived.
Almost like an Aussie witness to recent history.
First, he was in the '98 Sydney-Hobart, in which his yacht was hit by a 60ft+ wave.
The boat rolled over, and fortunately, rolled back. Then 15 hours of hell in the storm, until they were rescued. 6 people died in the race. He'd broken his leg and was winched off the boat.
Second, whilst flying his family in a light plane, the plane was hit by a side wind whilst landing, and he had to land in a field, and then ditch, totally destroying the plane, but everyone survived.
Third, his heart stopped whilst on a boat in Hobart, and he had to be revived.
And finally, he survived the 2005 Bali Bombing, several feet from the bomber. Others at his table were killed. He and his wife survived, with severely impaired sight.
Now is he lucky in life or unlucky!!
A true inspiration.
