Bernard Manning was a Manchester comedian who made his name in the 70s. His worst sin was to be a big Man Citeh fan! Often accused of being racist, his comic timing was amazing, and I'd say, the best along with Tommy Cooper. I saw Bernard Manning perform at his Embassy Club in '84. It was hard not to laugh. Watching Bernard Righton, above, and then doing Bernard Manning imitations in the shower this morning, made me realise that he was a celebration of the Manchester accent, where you can tell the joke without the words, but just the intro, timing, and the right swear word.
