At last, WiFi is in the house! I set up the Linksys Wireless router, and it's working sweetly. I had a crack at it 2 years ago with a D-Link Router, but it kept bombing out, and the connection was a bit flakey. I think it was something to do with the Telstra Cable needing a nod every now and then. The LInksys Router has a Telstra option built in, but it seems to be working with the default settings.
The Linksys Router is working beautifully, a strong signal across the house. I wonder how far outside I can go to pick up the signal. I also wonder what kick the router is sending out. It says don't go within 20cm. I say 20 yards!!
What it now means is the kids and wife can fight over the PC, whilst I have my laptop all to myself, wandering around the house.
I've updated the PC with the latest XP, Firefox, Skype, ZoneAlarm, and AVG. Just one problem.....I've left AVG to do a virus check on the PC, and two and a half hours later it's still running. The PC is well over 5 years old, the Samsung LCD screen is still great, PC isn't. 256MB RAM, and a disc that seems so slow and crunching away, I think that's the problem, plus the fan noise!! Time for a new PC? Let's wait for the kids to destroy this one!
